ComposiCast
EASY CAST URETHANE CASTING SYSTEM
The two part urethane resin, ComposiCast is being offered in two containers, 1 pound each (2.2 pounds total).
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATIONS
ComposiCast-3770 is a two component 100% solids urethane casting system. It is easy to process, with a low exotherm (maximum 170°F) that demolds in 15 – 20 minutes. The ComposiCast-3770’s low exotherm works exceptionally well with the ComposiMold Reusable Mold Making Material. The ComposiCast-3770 uses a 1:1 mixing ratio (by weight and volume) and solidifies to a beautiful off-white color. The texture is similar to a lightweight porcelain feel. The low viscosity makes it ideal for hand casting applications such as jewelry making, action figures, craft parts, and other general applications.

Mold Preparation:
When using the ComposiCast Urethane Resin with ComposiMold Reusable Mold Making Materials be sure the ComposiMold is completely cooled to room temperature or lower prior to use. Use a mold release that works with urethanes. It may be beneficial to perform a small trial prior to making your part to ensure that the urethane will separate from the mold as you intend.
Mixing:
Before using the ComposiCast Urethane Resin, make sure the two components are at room temperature. Measure equal volumes of part 1 and part 2 into a mixing container such as a plastic cup. For better accuracy, the components can be weighed. The mixing ratio by weight is also equal amounts of part 1 and part 2. Start mixing immediately and be sure to scrape the material off the sides of the mixing container. Mix for at least one minute.
Fillers can be added into the ComposiCast mix to change appearance, reduce weight, or reduce the amount of resin used. Examples of fillers include microballoons, bronze powders, colorants, fly ash, calcium carbonate, and sand. The filler must be dry before being added into the resin. Typically, add the filler into the resin after part 1 and part 2 have been mixed together.
Pouring:
After thorough mixing, pour the Resin mix into the ComposiMold mold cavity. The resin will begin to cure and solidify within 3 to 4 minutes depending on the temperature. Wait approximately 20 to 30 minutes before removing the part from the ComposiMold mold. Less time may deform the part.
Finishing:
Cured ComposiCast urethane can be drilled, sanded, and machined. Use detergent soap to remove the mold release from the urethane prior to painting. Most oil paints should work well for painting the ComposiCast urethane but check the adhesion of the paint to ensure satisfactory results.
Cleaning:
To improve clean up after using the ComposiCast Urethane Resin, spray the areas that may be in contact with the urethane with mold release so the urethane will not stick. Tools and equipment should be scraped clean prior to the resin curing and hardening. If necessary, denatured alcohol can be used as a solvent, but use with caution due to the flammability.
Safety:
Prior to use, read the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). The uncured resin may cause eye, skin, dermal and respiratory sensitization. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use in a well ventilated area. If skin contact occurs, remove with alcohol followed by soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush with water for 15 minutes and seek physician support. The resin will burn if ignited so do not use around flame or other easily ignitable products.
